The fighting Cossack doctor of North Wollongong, Dr Alexander James, will
soon be teaching his Method of asthma treatment at Wollongong Hospital. The
Minister for Health, Mr Jago, has announced the establishment of a clinic in
which Dr James will work.
The announcement is a major breakthrough against conservatism, and a deep personal
triumph for the doctor. Dr James has been fighting officialdom for 30 years
to have his Method of treatment accepted. Mr Jago is announcing the setting
up of a clinic, stated that specialists from the University of Sydney, the University
of N.S.W., and the Department of Health, would observe Dr James' methods. Dr
James said yesterday he was now confident his method of treatment would be accepted
by the medical profession. Dr James has a list of more than 3000 patients waiting
to see him. Asthma sufferers have come from overseas for his treatment.
Yesterday, a 14-year-old Italian boy was being treated after being flown to
Wollongong from Italy specially for the treatment.
A lesser man than Dr James, who is now 90 years old, would never have made the
present breakthrough.
Born a Cossack, he served in Russian armies at the turn of the century, lived under starvation conditions after the Red Revolution, fought diseases in China and, at the age of 64, took his second MD at Sydney University. His first MD was gained at Moscow University when he was a young man.
His fighting spirit is as strong as ever today. Yesterday he demonstrated his cure. A girl of 14 had a chest expansion of two inches. Five minutes later the same girl expanded her chest five and a half inches. Dr James' Method was simple and, if one did not witness it, one would be sceptical. But seeing is believing.
Dr James has always been open to any authority who desired to investigate his methods. He has pursued the medical profession and departments of health ruthlessly and continuously over the years. The cure, although simple, was discovered by Dr James after many years of study. Dr James says the current understanding and knowledge of the cause of asthma is essential before the condition can be successfully treated.
"This is why I have succeeded in curing asthma, without drugs, in a short time, by my system of natural physical methods, when all other forms of asthma treatment have failed." he said yesterday. "From many years of intensive study of existing ideas on the nature of asthmogenic factors during courses at the University of Moscow, Ecole de Medecin, Paris, post-graduate courses at St Petersburg and Moscow, and finally at Sydney University from 1943 to 1946, and from continuous individual research throughout my 60 years of medical practice, I recognised the significance of the breathing factor in asthma conditions." he said.
"The breathing factor showed clear evidence of predominant total dyspnea, not expiratory difficulty only, as is postulated by all orthodox medical authorities and as is described in medical textbooks, and I found that difficulty in breathing always exists bilaterally when the lungs, congested by bronchitis, over-filled with mucus secretion, are physically 'squeezed' by the immobilised chest, leaving no room for the expansion of the lungs. Actual strangulation of the lungs occurs in this condition of the chest cavity, and neither inhalation nor exhalation is possible. Contrary to orthodox medical opinion, I never considered asthma as a disease, but only as a condition of the lungs, showing symptoms of dyspnea, which is the main symptom in asthma.
This is the natural consequence of defective breathing: because defective breathing causes bronchitis - through defective breathing the chest cage becomes partly or completely immobilised and even 'cemented' and asthma is the result. In other words - there is no asthma without bronchitis and no bronchitis in asthma without or because of defective breathing." Dr James said. Dr James said the usual form of breathing exercises used by physiotherapists in the orthodox therapy of asthma is of no benefit. "This type of breathing exercises merely repeats the laboured breathing already existing in asthma conditions." he said.
My discovery of defective breathing as the initial cause of asthma, and my own elaboration of a natural system of breathing exercises to correct defective breathing, together with vibrotherapy of the nervous system, is my cure and the only cure for asthma." Dr James said.
And why has Dr James fought so hard to have his method accepted officially?
"Because I know I am right. Because there are 750,000 asthmatics in Australia
and millions all over the world." he said. "The time will come when
the futility of drug therapy in asthma treatment will be realised, and the immorality
of perpetuating it … will be judged and condemned." Dr James said.
